GBG Mime Fest
A movement based theatre festival for all ages

GBG Mime Fest is a festival that offers high-quality live performances within the expression of mime along with workshops, master classes and academic talks within theatre and mime. The festival aims to push the boundaries of what mime is and can be in the 21st century.

This year’s selected performances–in their own unique fashion–negotiates the phenomenon of time passing, humanity’s relationship to that passing and the sense of powerlessness that comes with the realization that our precious lives are not eternal. Using (and abusing!) the elements of tragedy, comedy, speech, movement and object manipulation our invited artists from Sweden, Italy, Czech Republic/Russia and France present us with the opportunity to ask the most fundamental questions of what it is to be human–once again collectively in the theatre! Last but not least we will present our highly anticipated evening of shorter acts–GBG Mime Explosion–this year hosted by the marvellous Ika Nord.

New to the festival this year is our honing in on the expanding field of mime artists resident in Sweden by inviting the graduating students of Mime-Acting at The Stockholm University of the Arts to present their highly personal solos/monologues. Grab the chance to discover what is currently simmering in the minds and bodies of these young mime-artists!

We cannot wait to meet!

Our stages this year

Stora Teatern is Gothenburg’s grand stage for Swedish and international guest

performances. The theatre is over 150 years old and located right in the heart of

Gothenburg. Here our celebration of shorter mime acts–GBG Mime Explosion–will take centre stage.

Masthuggsteatern is one of Sweden’s largest fringe theatres and has been producing performing arts for children, young people and adults since 1992. Next door to them we find Cinnober who has introduced new drama and musical theatre to Gothenburg since 1996. At these two venues the entire Departure program will be hosted along with seminars and morning classes for performers. Here you will also find the time to enjoy a cup of coffee, some sweets and catch your breath in between the performances.

Teater Trixter has been active since 1990. The basis for the theatre has from the beginning been the view of acting as an art form. We are thrilled that Teater Trixter will host the festival for the first time and hence expand the notions of what kind of art forms acting pertains to.

GEST-Gothenburg English Studio Theatre is an award-winning English speaking theatre located in Gothenburg, Sweden and is the only professional English speaking theatre in western Sweden. GEST was founded in 2005 with the aim of providing quality, contemporary and award-winning theatre in the English language. Yet another first time host venue of the festival which will sweep our audiences away to all kinds of theatrical universes–all in their brand new theatre–we couldn’t be more excited!
